Surface Winder Applications and Capabilities

Release Date: 09/01/2009

The Catbridge Model 210 two-drum surface winder has wide ranging capabilities and is popular for many types of applications. This versatile surface winder can be configured to handle materials from ultralight nonwovens and tissues to heavy paperboard.

Common applications include paper, nonwovens, and laminates. Typical papers processed with the Model 210 include tissue, toweling, writing and publication papers, kraft papers, and roofing papers. Nonwoven applications range from filters to hygienic nonwovens for diapers and sanitary products. The Model 210 also handles laminates such as paper laminations, foil laminations, and nonwoven laminations. The heavy-duty Model 210 surface winders are ideal for large rewind diameters, including sizes from 60″ (1520 mm) to 84″ (2140 mm).

A number of state-of-the-art features provide broad handling capabilities. Besides offering exceptional flexibility, these features yield significant gains in productivity and finished roll quality. Every aspect of our two-drum winder is designed to maximize throughput and provide fast, easy changeovers from job to job. Our technological advances allow precise and repeatable cut widths, consistent roll build up, easy and fast jumbo roll loading and finished roll discharge, quick recipe-controlled setups, positive slit separation, precise process control and Ethernet support.

For efficiency, quality, and consistency, our Model 210 incorporates features including:

  • Knife placement system: Easy access at operator-friendly waist height makes manual positioning faster and easier. Or, where justified, recipe controlled, automated knife placement is available to provide fast, accurate, repeatable setups, eliminating downtime and operator error.
  • Dual bowed rolls: Consistent, dependable slit roll separation is achieved with our precise and easy-to-use dual bowed roll system. Precise geometry in the configuration of the bowed rolls provides precise web control and roll separation, even for narrow slits.
  • Shafted or shaftless winding: The Model 210 can wind in either mode for a variety of inside diameters. Combined with a roll eject and J-table discharge system this minimizes roll change time, increasing slitter run time.
  • Advanced control system: Catbridge’s CBM1 advanced, user-friendly control system integrates all machine controls into a single networking package. This unit operates over a high-speed Ethernet connection and helps maintain precise tension control, provide automatic knife positioning, supply in-depth remote support, store and retrieve recipes, memorize project functions and integrate material handling functions.

Other available features include robust floor pick-up unwinds, driven and carbon fiber roll options, splicing tables, fully automated material handling systems, and unloading conveyors. Each Catbridge two-drum surface winder is tailored to meet your exact application and production needs. We can provide as much customization as necessary to get you the results you want.
